(Washington, D.C.)----A senior member of the House Aviation subcommittee, U.S. Rep. Howard Coble (R-NC), just announced that the federal government has approved new funding for a proposed taxiway at Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI).  Congressman Coble says the Economic Development Administration (EDA) has approved $1.5 million for the taxiway.

“We are thrilled that EDA has approved these funds for this much-needed taxiway,” Rep. Coble announced.  “This taxiway will connect to an existing runway and is part of the overall project to expand PTI’s available land for future business expansion.  This is great news for PTI and potential economic development in the 6th District.”

Airport officials told Rep. Coble that this $1.5 million federal grant will be used as part of project that is expected to cost just under $2.5 million.  It is expected to create 419 jobs and leverage some $80 million in private investment.

This project will take Taxiway M and connect to Runway 23 Left.  It is expected that the bids for this project will be awarded later this year or early next year with construction completed in calendar year 2014.

This is part of a larger project to construct an interstate bridge that will connect the existing airport property to nearby parcels of land and create opportunities to lure new businesses to PTI.
